TeamMates Mentoring Program of Lincoln enjoys community partnerships with businesses, service clubs and faith-based organizations that assist the school-based mentoring program by providing a caring adult mentor to more than 1,100 students.
Ameritas is one such partner. Commenting on the twenty-plus year relationship between TeamMates and Ameritas, JoAnn Martin, Ameritas president and CEO, said, “At Ameritas, we believe in the future of youth and fully support the mission of TeamMates to positively impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential.”
Currently 25 Ameritas associates volunteer for the TeamMates program, taking an hour each week to provide support and encouragement. Ameritas has supported TeamMates through a variety of mentor-recruiting events, including a “lunch and learn” with Dr. Tom Osborne, TeamMates’ co-founder; an annual volunteer fair where TeamMates recruits new mentors; and for the past two years spearheading the Border to Border Challenge run across Nebraska to raise awareness and recruit more mentors statewide. Ameritas also provides a business liaison with Lincoln Public Schools’ TeamMates staff and sponsors and sends mentors to the annual TeamMates tailgate fundraiser.
