The Star City Optimist Youth Foundation ( SCOYF ) members financially support and provide volunteer staffing for the December scrimmages, January Regional, and February State Finals of the Nebraska Academic Decathlon. Over 50 Nebraska high schools annually participate in this contest testing students’ knowledge in a variety of subject areas plus speeches and interviews surrounding an annual theme. Lincoln’s Pius X was the 2015 state winner and qualified for national competition.
