Take Flight Farms, an area non-profit, hosted an open house at Falkland Stables on  October 3rd for community leaders, mental health advocates, non-profits, schools, and corporations to introduce equine assisted psychotherapy and learning to the Lincoln/Lancaster County community.

Take Flight works to support the treatment of mental illness, behavioral health, and to teach life skills and personal development.  This model is unique because clients do not ride the horses.  All sessions take place on the ground working with the horses loose in an open arena with a licensed mental health practitioner and a knowledgeable horseman or woman present, both of whom are certified by EAGALA.  Take Flight plans to offer a variety of programs and services to the Lincoln community with an emphasis on reaching out to at-risk youth, veterans, and those seeking individual or family psychotherapy.  Currently, Take Flight is offering a grief workshop in November for those struggling to deal with a loss in their lives.

Incorporated in 2002, Take Flight Farms is a non-profit mental health organization based out of Omaha, NE.  For the past twelve years Take Flight has partnered with Omaha and Millard Public Schools, Boys Town, Creighton University, Wounded Warriors Family Support, Burlington Capital Group, At-Ease (Lutheran Family Services), Children’s Hospital Eating Disorder Program, and more.  For more information contact Take Flight Farms at (402) 930-3037 or visit www.takeflightfarms.org.
