B&R Stores, Inc. of Lincoln, NE has reached an agreement with Skag-Way Discount Department Stores, Inc. to purchase both Skagway stores in Grand Island. Under the agreement, B&R Stores will purchase the assets and inventory of the Skagway locations at 620 West State Street (Five Points) and 1607 South Locust Street. The building and property at the Five Points location will be purchased by Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) of Kansas City, Kansas. AWG will construct a new building at the site that will be leased to B&R Stores for a Super Saver store, the company’s second Super Saver location in Grand Island. The Skagway store at Five Points will remain open during construction of the Super Saver building.  The South Locust location will continue to operate as a Skagway store. As there are still some details of the plan that need to be finalized, the deal is expected to close in October.
