Cornhusker Bank remains Lincoln’s oldest locally owned bank, demonstrating stability, soundness, and continued commitment to the success of its valued customers and associates. David Nuismer is the Vice President of Cornhusker Bank.

Tell me a little about your business. – Cornhusker Bank is truly unique in today’s banking environment with a 360 degree culture model totally committed to the success of our clients, the success of our internal associates, and the success of our community.  As Barry Lockard, our bank president says, “It’s all about doing life together.”

How did you get started in the business? – I was contacted by a recruiter in the financial services industry.  After being involved in the Lincoln banking community for over 13 years, I had the great opportunity to join Cornhusker Bank over four years ago.  I currently serve as Vice President, focusing on providing banking solutions for business clients.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – I think the 2008 crash was a challenge for everyone in the financial industry, but going through it helped me become a better banker.

Tell me a little about your family. – I’m blessed to be married to Carolyn Behrens-Nuismer, my wife of 13 years.  She is an incredibly talented residential and commercial interior designer who has her own company, Hill of Beans Design.  I also have two stepsons, Sam and Jacob, as well as a 150 lb. lap dog St. Bernard named Angus.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – A couple of things come to mind:  First, the day I met my wife and second, being introduced via CDs to the sermons of Bryan Clark and ultimately attending Lincoln Berean Church (thanks Newman!).

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Hiking with my wife in Rocky Mountain National Park and then celebrating our achievement(s) with a feast at the Dunraven Inn in Estes Park, Colorado.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – At the ripe old age of 43, I’ve already had three back surgeries.

What are you the most proud of? – On the business front, seeing my clients, fellow associates, and organization succeed.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – An excerpt from a Kipling poem has stuck with me for years:
“If you can dream, and not make dreams your master,
If you can think, and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster,
And treat those two impostors just the same.”

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Being one who is seasonally afflicted, I’d be “No Allergy Man”, snuffing out sniffles across the globe.

Which talent would you most like to have? – In today’s ever shrinking world, it would be great to be multi-lingual.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Favorite:  The Bible…an amazing journey of salvation lost and ultimately restored.  John 16:33

What is your favorite movie? – Anything with Daniel Day Lewis, the greatest actor of our time.

What is your favorite TV show? – Seinfeld.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – If there’s a salmon shortage at Lazlo’s, you can blame me.  MōMō Pizzeria & Ristorante is also a great new establishment offering tasty flavor profiles.
