Darin Petersen is a Partner at SP Group, P.C.

How did you get started in the business? – Before going to graduate school, I talked to a number of attorneys and a number of CPA’s.  I decided that becoming a CPA appeared to be a better fit.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Balancing a desire to excel at both professional and personal life goals.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Co- founding SP Group in 2003.

Tell us a little about your family. – Very proud of my wife Jennifer and three children; Max (12), Fletch (10), and Piper (6). We are active with many different sports, teams, camps, lessons etc.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Earning a college baseball scholarship to UNL.  Ultimately playing baseball for UNL and meeting my wife in college started my life on a path that I am very thankful for. On the professional side, starting SP Group, P.C. eleven years ago was a positive life changing event as well.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Getting out of town with my wife or playing catch, shooting hoops, and spending time with my kids. Also enjoy playing golf and having a few drinks with friends.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I drove a taxi cab while in grad school. I saw and heard some interesting things.  Also, over the last 20 years I have eaten over 15,000 Little Debbie’s chocolate donuts. You should try some.

What are you the most proud of?  – 1) My family and friends. 2) My past athletic endeavors. 3) The SP Group, P.C. team.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Keep your word and treat others like you want to be treated.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Fielding a groundball.

Which talent would you most like to have? – Either playing the piano or guitar, that would be cool.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – A professional athlete or musician.

What is your favorite movie? – Too hard to limit! Some of my favorites include 8 Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, and Bull Durham.
