In the restaurant industry, it seems like every possible type of food has been done before.  That is, you’ll think that until you find out about Round-Abouts, the new locally owned and operated restaurant in the Clocktower Shopping Center on 70th and A.  Round-Abouts Restaurant, which was opened just last month by Nate and Bev Kellison, offers an assortment of ‘Rounds’, which are pot pies with a twist.  A ‘Round’ is a 3-inch ‘pie’ with a number of different filling options, including breakfast choices (think eggs and sausage) as well as lunch and dinner options.  They also have ‘Yo-Yos’, 1.5 inch pies that are filled with dessert flavors.

Round-Abouts is a quick-service restaurant where you order at the counter and your selections are brought to your table.  You can also get Round-Abouts catered or as take-out, which is what we did when we experienced the restaurant for lunch.  We got an assortment of the lunch/dinner options as well as a couple of breakfast Rounds, a few of the Yo-Yos and we also sampled the sandwiches and salad that Round-Abouts also offers.

If you love pot pies and are always looking for something new, you won’t be disappointed with Round-Abouts!  We tried the breakfast Rounds, one of which combined eggs, sausage, taco blend cheese and tomatoes and one that had sausage, potatoes and gravy.  These are perfect for a hearty breakfast and would especially be good with which to cater a morning meeting as they are each the perfect size for an individual serving.

The lunch/dinner rounds we tried included the Pepperoni (pepperoni, homemade pizza sauce, mozzarella, cheese and garlic), Reuben (corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, rye bread crumbs and Thousand Island dressing), Southwestern (rice, black beans, taco blend cheese, tomatoes, chili peppers and corn), BBQ Chicken (chicken, mozzarella cheese, KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce and corn), Chicken Parmesan (chicken, mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce and parmesan cheese), Cheese and Broccoli (rice, broccoli, carrots, celery, water chestnuts, onion and cheese), Cheese Steak (sirloin steak, onion, mushrooms, Worcestershire sauce and cheese) and Roast Beef (pot roast, Worcestershire sauce, carrots, potatoes and gravy).  Our favorites were the Pepperoni, the Pot Roast and the Cheese Steak, although each of them was delicious and unique in their own way.  Whether you are a vegetarian, red meat eater or a fan of chicken, you’ll find something you like here.  Meals are very affordable as well.  A Round with a side and a drink is only $5.50; two Rounds, a side and a drink is just $7.00 and for the large appetite, three Rounds, a side and drink are $8.25.

If pot pies just really aren’t your cup of tea, not to worry!  Round-Abouts also has sandwiches (we tried the ham & guacamole, pulled pork carnitas and the chicken salad), as well as a soup of the day and an amazing green salad that is light yet flavorful and would either make a good side item to a Round or a small meal on its own.

Of course, you should make sure you save some room for dessert as the Yo-Yos are absolutely yummy!  We tried the chocolate pie, banana cream pie, cherry pie and peach cobbler.  Smaller than the Rounds at 1.5 inches, they are the perfect ending to a meal and would also make a great addition to any catering you might be doing.  Perfect finger food for a meeting, bridal shower, party or any other event you might need desserts for.

In addition to their one-of-a-kind menu, Round-Abouts also features live music every Friday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 pm featuring great local talent.  The music is kept at a background level so you can still visit with your dinner companions as you dine and take in the great music.
