U-Stop Shops, a division of Lincoln-based Whitehead Oil Company, recently presented a check for $32,000 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, according to company President Mark Whitehead. The donation was the result of this year’s Shamrock Drive, an annual fundraiser for MDA Nebraska. It was the largest single donation by the company since 2007.

Whitehead presented the check to the MDA on March 24, and credited U-Stop Shops customers with the success of the drive. Over the years, U-Stop customers have purchased approximately $170,000 worth of shamrocks. The money raised in Lincoln, Hickman, and Ashland helps send kids with muscular dystrophy to summer camp.

Muscular dystrophy is an umbrella term for a number of diseases that cause progressive muscular weakness. The association funds research, clinics, summer camps, assists in the provision of wheelchairs and braces, and fosters professional and public health education.

Whitehead Oil Company is a family-owned fuel retailer and wholesale supplier that has played an active role in making the community a better place to live since 1959.
