Nearly 100 young drivers participated in three events in Lincoln, Kearney and Papillion to test their driving skills through various interactive simulations and driving courses. Teen Ford Driving Skills for Life, a half-day event of learning activities designed to help young drivers reduce their risk of motor vehicle crashes, was funded by a grant from the Ford Motor Company Foundation through the Governor’s Highway Safety Association.

The Nebraska Safety Council along with Anderson Ford, National Safety Council Nebraska, Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services, MADD, Lincoln Saltdogs, Nebraska Safety Center at UNK, Nebraska State Patrol, Cooper Racing, Nebraska Trucking Association, Project Extra Mile, AAA Nebraska, Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles, Nebraska Department of Roads, and local law enforcement participated in the events in early June. The Teen Ford Driving Skills for Life is one of the nation’s premier teen driver safety programs.

The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety coordinated the grant from Ford Motor Company Foundation awarded through the Governor’s Highway Safety Association to help make the events possible. Nebraska is one of many states that have taken advantage of this opportunity to help make our teens safer drivers.

Nebraska Safety Council (www.nesafetycouncil.org) is a non-profit organization that provides leadership and resources to promote a safe and healthy environment in our workplaces, on our roads and in our homes and communities.
