The LUX Center for the Arts has been awarded both the Governor’s Arts Award and Mayor’s Arts Award in 2014.

Jo Ann Emerson, executive director of the LUX Center for the Arts, accepted the Governor’s Arts Awards for Organizational Achievement at the March 25 ceremony held at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in La Vista, NE. The award acknowledges organizations demonstrating achievements at a consistently high level of excellence in programming and outreach.  The Governor’s Arts Awards is a biennial event honoring artists and arts supporters from across Nebraska. The ceremony is sponsored by the Nebraska Arts Council, Nebraskans for the Arts and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

Emerson will also accept the Gladys Lux Education Award to be presented by Mayor Chris Beutler and the Lincoln Arts Council at the Mayor’s Arts Awards on Wednesday, May 28 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. The award will be presented to Art Van deLux, the LUX Center’s mobile visual arts program, in recognition of the organization’s special initiatives or dedication to arts education. Art Van deLux enables the LUX Center to take art directly to the community, serving over 3,000 people ranging from cancer survivors to underserved youth.
