The East Lincoln Business Association recently presented a check for $10,113.68 to the Food Bank of Lincoln, which was the amount raised during ELBA’s first-annual BaconfEAST at the Lancaster Event Center on February 22 where more than 1,000 bacon lovers pigged out on savory bacon creations from 27 area restaurants that competed for the Bring Home the Bacon culinary award.  The inaugural event was a sell-out and ELBA hopes to make the event bigger and better in 2015.

Bacon soups, sundaes, sliders, wraps, candies, cookies and main courses were among the BaconfEAST menu items. Celebrity judges awarded Cappy’s Hot Spot Bar and Grill the top prize of $500 for its Snickers Bacon Melts. Brix and Stone Gastropub took home the second-place prize of $300 for its pork-stuffed wontons with kale and bacon slaw, and Talent Plus was awarded third place and $100 for its bacon-wrapped, Gouda-stuffed chicken with bacon Gouda cheese sauce and broccoli salad. Hormel provided bacon for the vendors and Nebraska Pork Producers provided cash prizes and trophies.
