To help supplement current donations, the Center for People in Need is seeking school supplies throughout the summer. Donations will be given to low-income children as part of its annual Tools for Education event, which will take place on July 26.

Tools for Education is one of the Center’s most popular events. In 2013, over 3,060 children received backpacks and school supplies including pens, pencils, paper, books, and other miscellaneous educational items.

Beatty Brasch, Executive Director for the Center for People in Need, said that tools for Education provides children with the basic materials needed for class that they otherwise would be unable to afford.

“For many of the families that we serve, after bills and rent, there simply is not enough money to purchase school supplies.” Brasch said. “Through Tools for Education, we can get kids the supplies that their peers have, and help send a message that education is critically important for children.”
