Dr. Kyle Haefele recently received the John J. Hanigan Award given each year by the Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department to a local physician who has supported community health initiatives and programs.

Dr. Haefele is a board certified family practice physician at the Lincoln Family Medicine Center and member of the Lancaster County Medical Society. The Lincoln Family Medicine Center is the primary education site for the training of physician residents in the Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program. Over the past several years he has worked with community leaders to expand and formalize a mandatory community medicine rotation for all family practice residents.

Dr. Haefele’s goal in creating this rotation was to help residents gain appreciation for the services available in Lincoln as well as background for evaluation and providing needed services in their chosen communities after graduation. Clearly his efforts demonstrate the importance of physicians working with their community to meet all of their patients’ needs.

The Lincoln Family Medicine Program is Lincoln’s only accredited residency program and has served the community since 1975 by providing family medicine training to qualified physician residents under the supervision of faculty physicians. The clinic accepts all patients, including Medicaid, Medicare, and self-pay. For more information, contact (402) 483- 4571.
