Husker Volleyball standout and Scottsbluff native Jordan Wilberger has been named the honorary first runner of the 2011 Cornhusker State Games Torch Run.  The Torch Run began at 2:50 p.m. on June 1 at the Nebraska-Wyoming border on Highway 26 west of Morrill.

Wilberger, a two-time Academic All-Conference middle-blocker and senior-to-be, is expected to be a team leader for the Huskers next fall when the team moves to the Big 10 Conference.  Wilberger started in 15 games as a junior and finished the season as an All-Tournament Selection at the Seattle NCAA Regional Tournament.

Wilberger will hand the Torch off to Richard Friedrichsen of Clarks, who began running 20 years ago at age 50, with the CSG Torch Run being his first organized event.   Since then, he has run at least two marathons in all 50 states and has completed marathons on all seven continents.  Friedrichsen is celebrating his 20-year Torch Run anniversary by covering 26 miles in six different legs throughout the 27-day route.

The 1,100-mile Torch Run route passes through more than 90 communities and stops for local observances in 20 more before returning to Lincoln on June 27.
