A local ideas community for small businesses and entrepreneurs is celebrating innovation with the unveiling of a 1500 square foot mural complete with a giant skull, a bladeless turbine, several famous innovators and a few pigeons.

Since April, the Turbine Flats Project, in collaboration with muralist Amos Sterns, has been painting ‘The Tesla Mural’–the world’s largest mural of Nikola Tesla, the Serbian inventor whose work was responsible for several of the world’s technological innovations.  The mural was unveiled on July 12th, and coincides with the Mayor Chris Beutler proclaiming ‘The Day of the Innovator’ in Lincoln, Nebraska, celebrating all local small business owners, entrepreneurs and internal leaders who encourage and promote positive change and new ways of economic, technological, artistic or scientific thinking.

The ‘Day of the Innovator’ celebration included the unveiling of the mural, Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting, and speeches by Mayor Chris Beutler, The Chamber of Commerce, Turbine Flats Project Founder, Matthew Wegener and muralist Amos Sterns. The celebration continued after the event with food and desserts from Heoya and Serendipities Cupcakes, kid-friendly experiments and live music.  A small Tesla Motors automobile show also featured a model S and the Tesla Roadster, and EyeCandy Artshows featured wax and oil artwork from Margaret Berry at Play Creative.
