Lincoln is clearly a city on the move.  New developments, both in the heart of the city and on its edges, are pushing a population boom and in the past year alone, we have moved past our pre-recession levels for employment.  To capitalize on our community’s growing successes, the Lincoln Chamber embarked on a bold plan to re-brand Lincoln.  You may remember the unique street signs around the holiday season, the world record Lincoln Log tower, or the new Lincoln logo as part of the program.  This fall, we released another capstone piece to the project when we unveiled the new Lincoln Mobile App.

The digital tool showcases the best of Lincoln for all to discover and access. The Lincoln app lets organizations, residents and students share the best places and events in Lincoln and it acts as a daily tool for finding out what’s going on around you.  We think it is a must-have for any visitor to Lincoln.  There is even a GPS function so that you will always know what there is to do and see around you any time of day and anywhere in Lincoln.

Go to http://lifeisright.com/mobile to add the web app to the home screen of your phone.

In addition to promoting Lincoln through the app, we have also stepped out on a national stage to showcase Lincoln attractions to travel writers from different publications around the country.  The last week in September, our state hosted 25 journalists writing for national and regional media outlets.  The Nebraska Tourism Commission sponsored the visit and received local assistance from the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau.  The tour was originally developed by Swanson Russell here in Lincoln in partnership with Geiger & Associates, a company based in Florida.  Geiger & Associates is a national media tour developer that specializes in bringing journalists to different areas of the nation to showcase what they have to offer.

Three previous tours have already produced significant media coverage for the state.  More than 75 journalists have now toured Nebraska since the program began, resulting in 119 articles or broadcast news segments.  Our state appeared in Midwest Living, American Cowboy, Huffington Post, Orlando Sentinel, and Minneapolis Star Tribune.  All of those national publications described Lincoln and Nebraska as travel destinations worthy of exploration.

These tours are important because tourism is the state’s third leading revenue-generating industry. Here in Lincoln, the number is in the millions of dollars for revenue generated by the tourism industry in lodging and sales tax.  It is exciting to think that in the coming months a resident of Toronto, Canada or Albuquerque, New Mexico could be reading an article or watching a video about visiting the Museum of American Speed, Sheldon Art Gallery, Lincoln Children’s Zoo or one of Lincoln’s many culinary treasures.
