The 3rd Annual Short Bowel Syndrome Foundation (SBSF) Golf Scramble is quickly approaching, and it’s time to start practicing those swings and putts, shine those clubs and hit the greens for some practice! This year’s event will be held at The Highlands Golf Course and will start at 8 a.m. on August 10th. Last year 52 registered golfers participated, and the event raised a little over $10,000 for patient support funding and education. In 2013, $6,000 is going to benefit SBS patients directly—this is just one of the reasons to come and support SBSF and its endeavors in the SBS community. Donations and funding will not only benefit SBS patients, but will continue in development of education and outreach materials for patients and families. Cost for this event will be $100 per player, in teams of two. Register early, from now until July 7th, to receive at $10 discount! Check the event page throughout the summer at shortbowelfoundation.org for updates on Hole Sponsors, prizes, who will be in attendance, and much more!

If you are a corporation that would like to sponsor this event, there is a Platinum Sponsorship package that includes a complimentary two person team. Not only do you get to play golf, but you get your company name out in the community!

For more information about Short Bowel Syndrome Foundation, please contact Andy Jablonski at (402) 770-0554 or by email at shortbowelfoundation@gmail.com.

The Waterford Communities are excited to announce they have added two new services at their College View location to further benefit their residents. The Waterford at College View will now have at least one nurse (RN or LPN) on staff around the clock, seven days a week, even though it is not required by regulations to do so. They will also have a Nurse Practitioner (APRN) visit residents on site once a week. This is a great service for residents who need to be seen by a physician but are not able to travel or it is just too inconvenient to go to the doctor’s office. The Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with the resident’s physician to help maintain positive health, update medications and answer various health questions. These new services allow for a higher level of care to an extensive range of residents – from totally independent to two-person assist with walkers, wheelchairs, catheters, insulin, incontinence, oxygen, special diets, pureed, diabetic etc. for short-term recovery or long-term assisted living stay, adult day care or Hospice care.

For your convenience, and due to the high demand for our successful services, The Waterford Communities have grown from one location to three locations in Lincoln: College View, Williamsburg, and our most recent, state-of-the-art new Wilderness Hill Memory Care facility. For more information, please visit www.thewaterford.net.

Tabitha, your answer for Elder Care, and The Landing at Williamsburg Village, an Immanuel Community, announced the start of a collaborative building project on The Landing’s south Lincoln campus. The two organizations hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on May 15th that kicked-off construction of the community, an innovative and visionary skilled nursing and long-term care residence for Lincoln’s most discerning seniors. The celebration included remarks from Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler, who presented a proclamation to commemorate the day, as well as a special, surprise presentation from The Landing residents.

The innovative community features 15 private suites—two built for couples—along with many shared indoor and outdoor living spaces where residents are encouraged to interact, form relationships and live their daily lives in an environment that’s just like home. The collaboration brings together Tabitha’s historic, award-winning nursing care with Immanuel’s excellence in living community design and support. The project is further complemented by the two organizations’ common focus on Christian-centered, compassionate care.

The building project, slated to open to residents in early 2014, is just the latest in an ongoing and growing collaboration between Tabitha and The Landing. Those who want to learn more about residence opportunities are encouraged to contact Tabitha Continuum Navigation at (402) 486-8520.

Clinic with a Heart is happy to announce we recently celebrated ten years of service. On that first night in May of 2003, a team from St. Mark’s United Methodist church saw 19 patients. Today, the clinic has eleven mission team sponsors including seven churches, a temple, two hospitals and a teaching institution. We estimate that in our ten years, we have seen more than 17,000 patients. Clinic with a Heart would like to thank the Lincoln community for your support with donations and volunteerism, as this is truly a community effort!

In 2012 alone:

- 714 volunteers donated 11,994 hours of service to care for patients.
- 2,862 patients were seen during the year at 108 clinics sponsored by 11 Mission Team sponsors. Patients made 3,157 visits to the clinic.
- 94% of our patients did not have insurance.
- 71% of our patients have household incomes of less than $16,000 a year.
- Were it not for Clinic with a Heart, 43% of our patients said they would have gotten their care in the emergency room.

For every dollar donated to Clinic with a Heart, we estimate a return of $6 in replacement care and community savings. For more information about Clinic with a Heart, please contact Teresa Harms at (402) 421-2924 or by email at Teresa@clinicwithaheart.org.

The Lincoln Brazil Jiu-Jitsu Center, located at 4009 O Street, is excited to announce they are now open with classes available! Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling martial art where practitioners attempt to subdue their opponent by tackling or throwing their opponent to their ground, and applying a choke or joint lock once the fight is on the mat. Because Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu relies on using body position, leverage, and timing (rather than strength or speed) to defeat an opponent, it is a very practical form of self-defense, especially for smaller folks.

Lincoln Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center’s goal is to provide a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable atmosphere for students to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In addition to offering black belt instruction, they have invited instructors in for seminars and clinics so that their students are exposed to the newest techniques and highest quality coaching possible. They currently offer adult training five days a week, and hope to add classes for kids and expand their offering of adult classes as they grow.

For more information about The Lincoln Brazil Jiu-Jitsu Center, please contact Greg Lawson at (402) 483-1258 or by email at gregoryrlawson@gmail.com. You can find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/LincolnBrazilianJiuJitsuCenter.
